Quiet Enjoyment or Loud & Proud?

When I first started in the BJD hobby, I was so excited; so obsessed! I spoke up and out, and I talked about these “omg super amaze-balls dolls!” whenever and wherever I could… to whomever would listen.

Meetups were arranged and attended – more frequently than not (much to my then-boyfriend/now-husband’s dismay). Dolls were brought to work (a coworker was even converted!), the fabric store, and even grocery shopping.

Photos were taken everywhere – outside our apartment, next to a pretty flower outside of work, under the shade of a tree in a shopping center, museums, aquariums, the zoo, stores… you name it, I probably took pictures there.

To be honest, I started the hobby very much in the “Loud & Proud” category.

Looking back on it, I made some amazing friends, and wouldn’t change my hobby’s start for anything. BJDs opened a door to a fun-loving, accepting, diverse community.

But lately I have been moving more and more into the “Quiet Enjoyment” category.

I still talk about dolls with my friends, but my dolls are no longer my profile photos/avatars, I don’t take them out with me just because, and I’m not one to pull them out in public places for photo ops. I DO, however, still enjoy talking about them, sewing for them, and taking quick Instagram snaps here & there.

Having been in the hobby for over 10 years, I am now quite content to collect them for my own enjoyment without forcing my collection on others. I will always love meeting new people in the hobby, but it’s not a ‘must do’ for me anymore.

What about you? Do you tend to quietly enjoy your dolls without telling many people you collect them? Or are you “loud and proud” – sharing your hobby with anyone and everyone who will listen?

BJD Measurements | Tinies!

Size charts for BJDs have been started, and the Tinies chart has been posted!

Check it out!

There is a ton of information! To view it all, you can scroll both left & right, and up & down.

If you’re looking for a specific company or size, use the search box on top of the measurement chart, and it will automatically filter what is displayed based on what is entered. Want to sort the chart? Simply click on a column header to sort by measurements, companies, or models.

I know several dolls and companies are missing from the chart. If you’d like to help fill them in, please send me a message with measurements of missing dolls/companies. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated!

In the meantime, the SD size chart has been started and should be posted soon. After that, the MSD chart will be started & posted. Keep an eye out for updates!

Hope the chart helps!

MIA

For the past year or so, my husband and I have been on quite the journey. We’re still here and we’re still alive!

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about the direction Resin Melody has been going and what I would eventually like it to be. That means there will be some pretty big updates taking place over the next several months.

Resin Melody as a blog will be shifting focus. Less about me, my sewing, and my own dolls… More about BJDs in general, the community, what’s new, and resources.

I will be shifting my personal blogging to a new site, but I haven’t decided on a domain yet. Shop updates will still happen here, though.

Which leads me to…

Resin Melody as a shop is still alive and kicking. We are on Etsy right now, but there are big plans for more this year!

I’m really excited for the upcoming changes!

If there is anything specific you would like to see, please let me know!

Creativity and Timing

So do you ever find that your spark of creativity peaks at the most inopportune time?

I do. All. The. Time. *sigh*

Right now is actually one of those times…

Ever since my husband and I moved from the Chicago area to Minnesota, we have basically been living in one room. This has been crazy, yes, but not all bad.

The biggest struggle has been finding space to be creative while still being able to live in peace.

Over Memorial Day weekend, I was able to get our space more organized in order to be more productive. Yay!

While organizing, I came across some fabric I received from a friend (hi Chris!) who was more than happy to get it off her hands… Apparently she was not fond of the pattern? I love it!

And I just knew it would make a super cute sundress.

I’m thinking it’ll be really cute with an orange sweater/jacket/cardigan. I’m not sure exactly what I’ll put over it, but I think I have orange knit that will blend the flowers and lace together.

Going through some of my fabrics, I also came across this fantastic pale blue & white paisley/lace print fabric I snagged from my grandmother’s stash several years ago. I think it will also make super cute sundresses with a white or off-white lace trim.

How adorable will that be? I mean, seriously – so cute!

Except… I’m leaving for my niece’s graduation tomorrow morning. And I will be gone for a week.

Creativity = yes! Timing = no! Darn it!

Volks SD10 Mimi

I’ve been having so much fun doing face-ups lately. One of my favorites that I’ve done lately is my Volks SD10 Mimi – she came out so adorable!

And to think I was contemplating selling this girl… it’s amazing the change a faceup can make!

I’m seriously so enamored with this girl. And so thankful I didn’t sell her! <3
